So what exactly is EFT?

If you've spent any time reading my content, it won't take you long to come across EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as tapping. So what exactly is it?


When I first heard about EFT I thought it sounded like hocus pocus. But luckily, I figured it was worth a try and I am SO glad I did​​​​​​​​.


EFT also known as "tapping", is a great way to work on deep memories and thought processes that might be holding us back from progressing with other more general mental wellbeing tools​​​​​​​.


For example, you might understand the principle that we need to accept things in life we can't change, but that's so much easier said than done. EFT can help with this​​​​​​​​.


It involves tapping on meridian (energy) lines within the body, similar to points used for acupuncture. Whether you believe in internal energy systems or not, there's a rapidly-growing body of evidence that this really works. ​​​


I've now used tapping to help me deal with feelings of self-doubt, perfectionism and "never being good enough" and even to deal with a pretty severe phobia when other forms of therapy hadn't worked​​​​​​​​.


And it's one of my go-to techniques when I'm stuck in a thought loop and am struggling to be mindful​​​​​​​​. EFT literally "breaks the loop" by removing deep, subconscious thought-patterns that make it difficult to stay in the present moment.


One of the AMAZING things about EFT when working with a practitioner is that they don't have to understand your position because you use your own words. That's how I can help someone work out what direction they want to take their career - I'm simply the guide, and I help you work out and organise your inner thoughts. Or how I can help someone with anxiety even if it presents differently to anything I've experienced - I use your words and your feelings and help hold a safe space for you to explore them, and then release them. And this, in my humble opinion, is why EFT works so well.


Because you're literally using your own inner wisdom, words that you resonate with, not someone else's.
