Think about it.
If you learnt French at school but haven’t spoken it since GCSEs, I bet you can’t remember much.
So if you currently overthink every decision and weigh up 101 options when asked what you want for dinner, your brain is pretty damn good at thinking about every single little option. Now you’ve just got to unlearn that, just like you’ve “unlearnt” the French 😉
And if you’re worried about missing something important if you do that - here’s the thing…
We tend to imagine we have unlimited thinking capacity and that there is no harm in thinking about a problem on repeat.
If you’re like Old Me, you probably think all the thinking is helping prevent a problem.
But your brain is an organ just like your heart, and just as your heart can only pump so many times an hour, your number of thoughts has a limit too.
If you think of 101 different options to one question, and then think about each of those options 5 times just to be sure you’ve not missed something, you’ve used a lot of your brain’s capacity for thinking.
Now, if there is a challenge, your brain has nothing left. It can’t troubleshoot and think of simple solutions.
So while it feels scary initially to make decisions quickly and trust yourself to get it right, as you become more practised at it, you’ll find (1) you have more mental energy and are less likely to get it wrong in the first place and (2) if you get it wrong, it doesn’t matter so much anyway.
I call this The Cycle of Trust and it’s something I cover in my Making Decisions; in depth guide.
And if you want to start training your brain to trust yourself, so you can stop overthinking every single little thing, it comes with an 8 minute EFT meditation designed to do exactly that.
If you like the free decision-making guide and meditation available here, you’ll LOVE the in-depth one.
The upgrade is based on the level of detail I give my one-to-one clients when they struggle with simple day-to-day decisions (like which fan to buy to cope in the heat wave, or do I even buy a fan at all?!) and people have had some great “ah-ha” moments from it.
I’m really excited to share this with you and can’t wait to hear how you find it!
