If you've been trying to make meditation a daily habit, but never get more than a few days in without stopping, this blog post's for you.
Let's dive right in.
----------------------------
1. Get really clear on why you want the new habit
And not just "because I've heard meditation is good for me". Ask yourself how your life will change as a result.
What will you do with the extra time that you'll get from mindful living? Why do you want to be happier? Who else will benefit?
Having a clear vision in your head makes it so much easier to be motivated
2. Learn how to do it
Sounds simple, but have you set an intention to do something without first learning how to make it happen?
You're going to find reasons to not meditate if you feel silly when you try and do it
3. Habit-stack
Now you know why you're doing it, and how, think about when you're going to do it.
By planning to do your new habit next to something that's already a consistent habit, makes it much more likely to stick.
4. Reflect on what's working (and what's not)
This is a big mistake I see people make, and a massive part of working with me one-to-one.
Set aside time, even just 5 mins once a week, to ask yourself what's working and what's not.
Are you doing it every day? If not, why not? What can you change? How good does it feel on the days you meditate?
In doing this, the positives keep you motivated and you'll move through challenges, rather than just grinding to a halt
5. Set an end date
Yup, you read that right
This makes it SO much easier to go all in and to be curious about the outcome.
Plan to meditate every day for a month and see how it makes you feel. If after a month, you don't like it, stop đ¤ˇââď¸
But if after a month, you feel different - set a new goal.
You might surprise yourself đ
Bonus tip:
Get some accountability.
Tell a friend, family member, colleague, what you're planning and ask them to check-in at predetermined times.
And if you haven't done it, you have to explain why.
